Carne Golf Links 

 

Set in magnificent, unspoilt sand dunes stretching 150m above sea level, with breathtaking views of the Atlantic across Blacksod Bay and the legendary islands of Inis Glóire and Inis Géidhe.  The course features eighteen amazing holes and respects the natural landscape, the tees and greens occurred naturally and very little earth moving was involved in the course construction.

Blacksod Light House

 

Get to know the history of this iconic landmark. Step inside the lighthouse and learn how the lighthouse keepers lived and worked, the evolution of their roles and responsibilities and the challenges they faced over time, due to the remote peninsula location. The guides are on hand to answer any queries or regale tale of local maritime history.

 

Set aside around 30 minutes to enjoy the Blacksod Lighthouse tour. Arrive a little early and watch the colourful fishing boats pull in their haul or enjoy a cup of coffee with a stunning sea view.

Boat Trips 

 

Belmullet Boat Charteris a family run business based in Blacksod proximately 35/40 minutes’ drive from Geesala. Local Walking Trails 

 

Wild Nephin National Park 

The Wild Nephin - National Parks of Ireland is a true wilderness waiting to be explored encompassing 15,000 hectares of Atlantic blanket bog, mountainous terrain and forests dominated by the Nephin Beg Mountain range. It’s also home to @MayoDarkSkies. Access a variety of gorgeous loop and long-distance walks via Letterkeen, near #Newport. Claggan Mountain Coastal Trail, near #Mulranny and the Tóchar Daithí Bán loop on the grounds of #Ballycroy Visitor Centre are also wonderful short walks to enjoy and perfect for families.

 

Erris Loop Head 

The best way to explore the Erris headland is on the 5.1km Erris Head Loop. It’s a relatively quiet loop trail near Béal an Mhuirthead, suitable for most fitness levels with just a 172m total incline.

 

The trail provides you with the chance to see flora, sea birds and wildlife. Sea views extend to the watchtower and EIRE 64 marker. Note that dogs are not permitted due to sheep grazing. 

 

Carrowteige Loop Walk 

 

With its profusion of precipitous cliffs, crags, caves, chasms and islands, breathtaking clifftop views over the stunning Broadhaven Bay, dizzying heights to scale, and a bird’s eye view of the Stags of Broadhaven, Carrowteige Loop Walks  will leave you awestruck with its natural, rugged beauty.

 

There are four walks in total, randing in difficult from easy to strenuous. Green arrows mark the shortest route – but while you’re there, why not make a day of it?

Achill Aquarium

 

The Achill Aquarium provided visitors with the chance to get up close and learn about the animals who live within the aquarium. This is Mayo’s only aquarium and consists of 16 tanks. They exhibit a variety of nearby fish and a selection of tropical fish from around the world.

The open top tanks allow visitors to get a prime look at catsharks, crab, thornback rays, starfish, sea urchins and many more. If visitors are lucky, they may also get the chance to see Nemo the clownfish and Dory the Pacific Blue Tang
