The Barony of Erris

The Barony of Erris is a real haven for walks, sea sports and those with an interest in Heritage and Culture. In 2014 this beautiful rugged and sparsley populated are won The Irish Times BEST PLACE TO GO WILD IN IRELAND competition and was chosen for its balance of nature, wilderness, beauty, activities and accessibility.
The name Erris derives from the Irish 'Iar Ros' meaning 'Western promontary'. The full name is the Iorrais Domann, after the Fir Bolg tribe, the Fir Domnann. To its north is the Wild Atlantic Ocean and the bays of Broadhaven and Scruth Fada Conn and to its west is Blacksod Bay.
Erris offers many different activities such as Water sports fishing, surfing, boat charters, golfing and a faboulous selection of unspoilt beaches.  

Carne Golf Courses

Carne Golf links lies on the remote and rugged Mullet Peninsula and is renowned for its ‘Wild and Ancient Landscape’. It is set in magnificent unspoilt sand dunes stretching  150m above sea level, with breathtaking views of the Atlantic across Blacksod Bay and the legendary islands of Inis Gloir and Inis Geidhe. The course features eighteen amazing holes designed by the late Eddie Hackett and a further nine holes designed by the Kilmore nine ‘The Wild Atlantic Dunes Course’

Doohoma Golf Courses

Doohoma golf course is a 9-hole Par 3 course located approximately 10 a minute drive from our hotel.
Doohoma golf course is situated right beside a beautiful beach, Doohoma Head, which is located in eastern Blacksod Bay in a very quiet and secluded area. From the beautiful beach you have a breath-taking view over Achill Island and the Mullet Peninsula.

Boat Trips and Fishing

Belmullet Boat Charter is a family run business based in Blacksod arroximately 35/40 minutes drive from Geesala. They specialize in Island trips to the famous Inishkea Island where their family originally came from. The trips also include an exclusive guided tour of the Island from an Island descendant. It is a family run enterprise with broad knowlwdge of the Wild Atlantic way, the North Atlantic and west Coast. Having originally lived on Inishkea Islands, before mmoving to the mainland the family have fished in the North Atlantic to provide for the family.
